Insurance and cost
Does Insurance Cover a Windshield Repair or Replacement?
Short answer: often yes, if you carry comprehensive coverage. Here is how glass claims actually work in Georgia, and what it means for what you pay out of pocket.
Comprehensive coverage usually pays, and we bill your insurer directly.
Auto glass claims fall under the comprehensive part of your policy, not collision and not liability. If you carry comprehensive, which most financed and leased cars do, a chip or a cracked windshield is generally covered. If you only carry liability, glass comes out of your pocket.
Your deductible is what decides your cost. Glass repair is often covered with little or no deductible, because an $85 chip fix is far cheaper for the insurer than the replacement it prevents. A full replacement is usually subject to your comprehensive deductible, so if your deductible is $500 and the replacement runs $400, filing does not help you and you are better off paying us directly.
Georgia does not have a law that forces insurers to waive your deductible on glass. A handful of states like Florida and South Carolina do, and Georgia is not one of them. What you actually owe comes down to your specific comprehensive terms, so the honest answer is this: tell us your insurer and we find out exactly what you pay before any work happens.
Filing is simple, and we do the paperwork. Give your insurer our number when you open the claim, or hand us the details and we file it for you. We are a preferred vendor for the major networks, so in most cases we bill them directly and you never front the money.
Chip repair is a flat $85 and is often fully covered. Replacement pricing depends on your exact vehicle and glass, so it is quoted from your VIN before we start. Either way, if insurance is covering the job, we tell you your out-of-pocket number up front.
Questions Drivers Ask
Will a glass claim raise my rates?
A glass claim goes through comprehensive, not the at-fault collision side, so it does not carry the same weight as a fender-bender. We cannot speak for how your specific insurer prices a renewal, but comprehensive glass claims are generally treated differently than accidents.
Do I have to use the shop my insurance recommends?
No. You choose who does your glass work. Your insurer may steer you toward a network shop, but you can tell them you want Executive Auto Glass and they will work with us.
What if my deductible is more than the repair costs?
Then filing does not help you, and we will say so. If your deductible is $500 and the job is $350, you just pay us directly and skip the claim. We would rather tell you that than run a pointless claim.
Can you file the claim for me?
Yes. Give us your insurance details and we handle the filing and bill your insurer directly in most cases, so you are not out of pocket while it processes.
