Ford Windshield and Auto Glass Replacement

Many Fords carry Co-Pilot360 and, on some, a heated windshield. Here is what Ford tells owners about the glass, and what we do.

Good to know

Ford has more windshield variations than most brands, so the VIN does the deciding.

Start with what Ford says Co-Pilot360 is. On Ford's support page, it includes Pre-Collision Assist with automatic braking, BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, a Lane-Keeping System, a rear view camera and Auto High-Beam Headlamps. A higher tier, Co-Pilot360 Assist+, adds Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go and Lane Centering, Evasive Steering Assist and Post-collision Braking. Ford tells you to ask a local dealer what your vehicle has.

Pre-Collision Assist is the part that touches your windshield. Ford's owner manual has a section on locating its sensors, and it lists a camera among them. In that same section Ford says to have any windshield damage in the area of the camera's field of view repaired. So the camera looks out through your glass, and Ford wants damage in its view dealt with instead of ignored. A chip that sits there gets our attention first.

Some Fords also offer a heated windshield. Ford's owner manual has a Heated Windshield section under climate control, marked as if equipped. We cannot say which trims have it without your VIN, and we will not guess. What we can say is that a heated windshield is a different piece of glass than a standard one, and swapping the wrong one in is the kind of mistake the VIN prevents.

Here is where we are plain about limits. After a windshield replacement on a Ford with a camera behind the glass, the camera may need calibration. We do not do calibration. We refer that to the Ford dealer. Ford recommends the dealer for it. The outside tools shops use reach the vehicle's computer through a back door that has caused system problems. Dealers do not share their equipment or access. Makers also call for a controlled indoor space, which a mobile truck cannot offer.

Ford's range is wide: pickups, SUVs, vans, and fleet vehicles. We replace windshields on all of them, and we do fleet and dealership work too. One vehicle can have up to about 15 windshield versions depending on options, which is why every windshield estimate runs off the VIN. Door glass, quarter glass and back glass get a free estimate by vehicle. On a pickup, if the back glass has a defroster, we reconnect the defroster connections.

Common questions

Questions Drivers Ask

Does my Ford have a heated windshield?

Ford offers one on some vehicles, and it is listed in the owner manual as if equipped. The VIN tells us for sure, and you can also check your own manual or the controls on the climate panel.

Is a chip in front of the Ford camera a problem?

Ford's owner manual says to have windshield damage in the area of the camera's field of view repaired. Send us a photo and we will tell you whether a repair or a replacement is the right fix.

Will you calibrate the camera after a Ford windshield replacement?

No. We replace the glass and refer calibration to the Ford dealer, because the dealer has the equipment and the controlled space that the work needs.
