Ram Windshield and Auto Glass Replacement

Ram's owner's manual has a line about windshield replacement that most owners never see. It affects your high beams, and it tells you who to see after the glass is in.

Good to know

Ram's manual says the high beam mirror must be re-aimed after a windshield replacement, and to see an authorized dealer for it.

Here is the line, straight from Ram's 2024 owner's manual, in the part about Automatic High Beam Headlamp Control: if the windshield or Automatic High Beam Headlamp Control mirror is replaced, the mirror must be re-aimed to ensure proper performance, and you should see a local authorized dealer. Most people think of a windshield replacement as a glass job and nothing else. On a Ram with that system, Ram itself says there is a second step.

Why does a mirror matter to a windshield? The same manual explains how the auto high beam works on a Ram: it reads oncoming and leading lights and switches between high and low beams. It also says dirt, film and other obstructions on the windshield or the camera lens will cause the system to function improperly. So the windshield sits right in front of the thing that decides when your high beams go on and off.

Adaptive cruise control on a Ram follows the same pattern. Ram's manual says the system uses a radar sensor and a forward facing camera to detect a vehicle ahead. When it reports limited function in weather that is not the cause, the manual tells the driver to examine the windshield and the camera located on the back side of the inside rearview mirror, which may need cleaning or an obstruction removed. Two systems, one windshield, one mirror mount.

That is how we handle a Ram windshield. We replace the glass, with a free estimate by VIN, and we can quote OEM, OEE (original equipment equivalent) or aftermarket glass, with a fallback if your first pick is not available. We do not calibrate or re-aim these systems ourselves. We refer you to the Ram dealer, because Ram's own manual sends you there, because outside tools reach the vehicle's computer through a back door that has caused system problems, and because the dealer has the equipment and the controlled indoor space that makers call for.

A few Rams have extra glass features too. The manual lists a Head Up Display, marked if equipped, and a Remote Start Windshield Wiper De-Icer, also if equipped, that runs during remote start in cold weather. One vehicle can have up to about 15 windshield versions by option package, and the VIN is how we avoid guessing which one is yours.

Rams work for a living, and so do we: fleet and dealership glass are part of what we do. Door, quarter and back glass get a free estimate by vehicle, and on pickups with a rear defroster we reconnect the defroster connections. Chip repair is a flat $85 for up to 3 chips, with mobile service included.
