Porsche offers a heated windscreen and insulated glass on some models. Those options change the part, so a Porsche windshield is never just a Porsche windshield.
Porsche heated and insulated windshields are options, so the VIN has to tell us which one yours is.
The Cayenne press kit says a heated windscreen is available as an option, alongside thermally and acoustically insulated glass. Porsche lists the head-up display as an option too. In other words, a Cayenne can leave the factory with a windscreen that is plain, heated, insulated or built for a display, in several combinations. The one in your car depends on what the first owner ordered.
The Macan story is more specific. In its press material, Porsche says a heated windscreen became optionally available on the Macan for the first time, in the form of a special film integrated into the windscreen that does away with the need for any heating filaments. That is useful to know. It means a heated Macan windshield is not a plain pane with wires you can see, and the replacement has to carry the same film. It is an older press kit, so we confirm with the VIN rather than relying on a model year guess.
Cameras come into it as well. Porsche says the Macan has a front camera that detects when vehicles or pedestrians are in the collision area and warns the driver visually and acoustically in the first stage. The text we read does not say where the camera sits, so we will not say. We read your VIN and the build for your exact car.
If your Porsche needs camera calibration after a windshield replacement, the dealer does it. We do not calibrate. Makers recommend dealer calibration, third-party tools reach the vehicle computer through a back door that has caused system issues, and the procedure needs a controlled indoor space, which a visit to your driveway cannot offer.
