Dodge Windshield and Auto Glass Replacement
Dodge hides a camera on the back of the rearview mirror, and its manual says what to do when the windshield is replaced.
Dodge's manual says the mirror must be re-aimed after a windshield replacement, so a Dodge windshield job has a second step.
Take it from the Dodge Charger's 2023 owner's manual. It describes Automatic High Beam Headlamp Control this way: it automates the high beams using a digital camera mounted on the inside rearview mirror. That camera sees approaching light and switches from high to low beams. A few lines later the manual makes a point that matters for glass: dirt, film and other obstructions on the windshield or camera lens will cause the system to function improperly.
The sentence that matters most is the next one: if the windshield or the Automatic High Beam Headlamp Control mirror is replaced, the mirror must be re-aimed to ensure proper performance, and the manual says to see a local authorized dealer. It is rare for an owner's manual to spell out a step after glass work, so we take notice. A Dodge windshield replacement is not only the glass, if your Charger has that system.
The manual describes one more camera. When the adaptive cruise system reports limited function and weather is not the cause, the driver is told to examine the windshield and the camera located on the back side of the inside rearview mirror, which may need cleaning or an obstruction removed. The glass in front of that camera is part of how the car sees the road.
Here is what we do. We replace the windshield with a free estimate by VIN, and we can quote OEM, OEE (original equipment equivalent) or aftermarket glass. If the glass you want is not available, we have a fallback. We do not do camera calibration or re-aiming. That goes to the Dodge dealer. The maker's own manual points there, third-party tools get to the car's computer through a back door that has caused system problems, dealers do not share their equipment, and a controlled indoor space is required, which a mobile visit cannot provide.
The Charger manual also lists a Remote Start Windshield Wiper De-Icer, marked as if equipped, that turns on in cold weather during remote start. Equipment like that is why the VIN decides which windshield fits; one vehicle can have up to about 15 versions by option package.
Door glass, quarter glass and back glass on a Dodge also get a free estimate by vehicle, and we reconnect the rear defroster connections on a back glass job. A chip repair is a flat $85 for up to 3 chips, mobile service included.
