Lexus Windshield and Auto Glass Replacement

Lexus Safety System+ is the name for the safety suite, and its own documents are clear about the camera. Lexus says the system uses a forward-facing camera for functions like lane tracing and road sign recognition, and that it combines camera and navigation data to show some road sign information on the multi-information display and head-up display. So on a Lexus with the suite, the camera reads the road through the windshield.

Lexus also warns what can get in its way. Its Safety System documentation says situations like a fogged, dirty, broken or tinted windshield, or rain, snow, ice or stickers blocking the camera, can affect performance. A cracked windshield in front of that camera is on the list. If your Lexus has the system and the glass is damaged, it is worth treating that as more than a cosmetic issue.

Acoustic glass is a feature Lexus has listed in its brochures. The 2018 RX brochure includes an acoustic glass windshield, and the 2022 UX brochure lists acoustic front side glass in its higher trim packages. That tells us the glass differs by model and trim, even on the same nameplate. Head-up displays are common on Lexus too. Lexus brochures describe an available full-color head-up display on the 2018 RX that projects key information on the windshield, and the newer LS has a large head-up display within the windshield.
