Mazda Windshield and Auto Glass Replacement

Mazda is specific in its owner manuals about where the camera sits and what blocks it. That makes it easy to explain why the glass and the area around the mirror matter.

Good to know

Mazda says its forward camera sits at the top of the windshield, so damage or film there can affect the system.

The Mazda owner manuals say it plainly. In its CX-9 manual, Mazda describes the forward sensing camera as mounted at the top of the windshield near the rearview mirror, where it reads lane markings and detects vehicles, pedestrians and obstacles. The CX-90 manual adds that the camera pauses its functions when the glass in front of it is dirty or fogged, and tells you to use the defroster to clear fog. It also says film or stickers near the camera can stop it from working properly.

That has a practical side. If you have tint film or a toll sticker stuck to the glass near the mirror, you may be getting in the camera's way. When we replace a Mazda windshield, we keep that area clean and clear, and we can tell you where a sticker should and should not go. Nothing about this needs to be complicated.

The head-up display is the next detail. Mazda calls its version the Active Driving Display, and its CX-90 releases list it as standard equipment on the trims they cover. The CX-90 manual notes that polarized sunglasses and weather like rain or snow can reduce visibility of it. Mazda also says the forward camera can recognize upcoming traffic signs and show them on the display. A display car needs a windshield made for it, so we match the glass to your VIN.

Rain-sensing wipers are standard on the CX-90, according to Mazda's 2027 pricing release. A rain sensor reads the glass, so a windshield for a car with it has to be made for it too. We do not assume any Mazda is the same as the one next to it. One vehicle can have up to about 15 windshield versions by option package, and we find yours from the VIN and give a free estimate.

If your Mazda needs camera calibration after the new windshield, the dealer does it. We do not calibrate. Makers recommend dealer calibration, third-party tools reach the vehicle computer through a back door that has caused system issues, and the procedure needs a controlled indoor space. We install OEM, OEE or aftermarket glass, with a fallback if one is not available, and come to your home or workplace. We also replace Mazda door, quarter and back glass.
